The wingspan on this thing must have been about 6 feet!
That's a Heron - plenty of them along the canal.
Very wary birds so to get a good close-up remember not to scare them with any sudden movements.
Watching them fish is a joy, as they concentrate with their heads bowed ready to pierce the water like a dart!
