This is the last span of the Leeds and Thirsk Railway Viaduct, the first of three such Viaducts on the Leeds - Harrogate - York Line. The area between this bridge and the "Canal Street" Bridge is called (locally) Botany Bay. In 1801 the first shipment of wool from Australia to the UK was landed here, to be woven at the nearby Armley Mills.
