This is Rosegrove Wharf. In the middle 1950's the industrial coal merchants, Dean,Waddington Ltd of Blackburn had a wooden coal chute fitted to the quay to load coal from the opencast coal workings around Padiham. They used one steamer towing two butties. Total load nearly 150 tons, 4 men. Coal fired boiler naturally. PS I had a ride with the first load
